Italy

The next day we woke up, got b-fast, checked out, and then rented a car and headed out of Rome. We were on our way to Sorrento. It was a pretty long drive but I slept most of it and woke up right in time for us to realize that we passed the exit. Trying to get back on the highway was difficult but we ended making it there but driving in Sorrento was the worst. When we finally circled about 50 times we found out how to get to the hotel my mom found in the guide book. Of course it was way too expensive so we wondered around looking for somewhere and ended up finding a cheap little hostel but it would have to do. There wasn’t much to do in Sorrento but walk around, so that’s what we basically did the first day and went to their little history and art museum. The next day we took a day trip to Capri which was a little island that we took a ferry to and it was pretty but again not much to do which was also because it was off season and everything was closed. The next day we hopped in the car and drove to Pompeii. It was amazing! I was awed that so many ruins were left after the volcanic explosion. It was also sad because all of a sudden the people’s home and town were covered in ash were people were stuck under all the ash just doing everyday things. The casts of holes left in the ash of the people were neat. The town was soo big that we spent about 4 hours walking around and still didn’t see everything we could have. I definitely want to go back and see everything again. After Pompeii we headed to Siena. It was going to be a long drive so when it was getting late we stopped in this little town called, , and spent the night in the Panorama hotel (called this for its view of Rome) were the owner had lost her son that she said looked like my dad and it was really sad. My mom and I went out to dinner and brought back food for my sis and dad. Then we all fell asleep to watching V for Vendetta and Blades Of Glory (we have watched that movie about 70 times on this trip so far and still aren’t tired of it!). The next morning we got a pastry and espresso and headed back on the road to Siena.
